The importance of connection and smiling - MMM S1E17
Jun 25, 2024Monday Motivational Message
If we are willing to smile and see the persons we get into contact with, the world would instantly become a little prettier.
In this day and age we miss out on possibilities for good conversations because we are so consumed by other things.
We are often in a rush, busy with whatever is on our minds, to notice what’s going on around us. Maybe we aren’t rushing at all, but we don’t know how to interact, even if we would like to in that moment and hence we let the opportunity pass.
Maybe we don’t feel like smiling at all, not wanting to connect for whatever reason.
There are many reasons why we don’t interact with people we don’t know (and actually also don’t very well with the ones we do know). The result can lead to loneliness, especially when there are no other people to talk to in your immediate surroundings. We might know others, but are we willing to disturb them, feeling like we may be imposing on them when we do?
The risk of not (really) communicating is that we assume we know how the other one feels, instead of asking and checking. All of this can lead to feeling alone, regardless of whether we actually are or not.
We can change that by smiling at people we do see. People in passing. People behind the cash register. Someone waiting in line in front of us or next to us.
Smiling can lead to laughter. Laughter helps us relax. It males us smile internally, giving us a boost of energy.
Let’s take some time out to actually see others and connect with them. It’ll make both your days.
