Make it happen MMM S1E20
Jul 16, 2024“Keep going, you’ll get there.”
It’s something I posted on Instagram. It is something I absolutely believe in. It might not be easy, it might go slow, but it can be done.
Learning to walk again
A decade ago I twisted my ankle on a brick. I expected someone to catch me, but the opposite happened and as a result I tore a ligament and a bone was on the loose, with the tendons attached to it. Needless to say that I wasn’t able to do much walking, standing or sitting for that matter. It didn’t keep me from doing what I wanted to do, which was regaining my freedom and learning to walk again.
The drive to go do it
The example I am using seems so logical. It wasn’t as easy as it sounds. It took me two surgeries and a whole lot of physical therapy and especially a lot of support to keep going, but I did it.
There are other things too, which required and still require that same drive. In order to find the motivation there are a number of things I do:
Remember why
Our why represents the importance of why we want to make this work. We can look at this on the surface, but we can also keep asking over and over again “why” and that might take us to some very surprising outcomes.
Write your thoughts down
It always helps to start writing what you are thinking. Depending on how honest you dare to be to yourself, the mere fact of writing your thoughts down will give you insights. Those insights are needed to acknowledge (they are there) and next to evaluate. Is this how you want to think? How about going for a positive outcome?
Talk to others
When we have trouble giving ourselves that pep talk, talk to others. It will help you to change your negative self talk. If you let what you say to the other one sink in, so you basically talk to yourself, you’ll hear what you are telling others. You will notice if you talk yourself down. You will know if you are giving up. But will you do so, if you have someone on the other side who wants you to succeed?
Keep going until you find the answer
The most important thing is to not give up, even when you want to. Look at the things you have written down. Figure out where you can make small changes. Apply those.
Reminders
Last but not least use reminders:
- During the day
- When you are experiencing hard times
- When you need that push to move forward
- To remember why you set out to do this.
One last thing
If you need some help to turn things from negative to positive, get the worksheet to transform the negative to positive, especially what you have written down. If you want it, leave a comment or even better, sign up for change!
You can do it! Don’t ever forget this!
